Gas Guzzler Tax? if im buying a car that originally had a gas guzzler tax to i have to pay that if im buying that car used?? grungeant replied: "No" Does a person have to pay gas guzzler tax if the vehicle is used? Ex. a person bought a Shelby gt500 and later sold it to the dealers does the next person that buys the vehicle have to pay the gas guzzler tax as well? HerbS replied: "NO, new cars only."
Insensitively Honest replied: "I do not think so , I have a 89 full size bronco that has a 8 inch lift , and 38 mud tires on it , I do not pay a gas guzzler tax on it ..The fill up at the pump is bad enough , I put a custom gas tank on it 45 gallons , and at 2.43 per gallon it runs about 110 dollars to fill up , and with 6.5 miles per gallon I fill up quit a bit ..I do not drive it everyday , it is for my off road play time ,and it is equipped with emergency lights and siren to run calls in ( Fire Dept ) the insurance is not bad either , it is listed as a station wagon which cut the premium in half ..But No Guzzler tax ....which is good , this thing is expensive with constant rear end work , drive shafts , etc...I had to get a shaft made ( $500.00) ..So I guess it is good no extra tax , I keep the parts place in business and that is enough....4x4 and high performance are more expensive , because it is not if something goes wrong it is when it goes ...."
jay replied: "It is a one time fee, when the car is sold as new." Does California have a gas guzzler tax? It's been a while since I bought a new car, does California have a gas guzzler tax?
If so, how much is it? Is it a variable rate? How is that rate determined? G T replied: "Yup, Kommiefornia charges the federal gas guzzler tax on selected vehicles.
"
Ozeki replied: "yes, ask Arnie" Is California gas guzzler tax implied on used vehicles? Bying certain new cars in CA one may get hit with gas guzzler tax, i.e. 2007 Audi S4 $ 1,700. How is that if one intends to buy a used vehicle. Is the gas guzzler tax then again implied and, if so, is it added after the negotiated price incl. sales tax or will the tax be taxed as well with sales tax (kinda double taxed). Please clarify the taxing situation for me. Thanks in advance Ian F replied: "APplied, not implied.
And no, it isn't. That's just for new vehicles. It's just sales tax and/or registration."
Speaker4theDead replied: "you should move to new hampshire if only to buy a car because there is no sales tax at all there. Also, many people didnt know this was possible but you are also not required to have car insurance in new hampshire" What is gas guzzler tax? What the hell is a gas guzzler tax. The dealership I was going to buy a car from wanted to charge me 3grand for a "Gas guzzler tax" whats the heck is that? webjnke1 replied: "additional fee for cars that don't get good gas mileage. It's to persuade people to buy economical cars."
sparkle_eye replied: "What is the Gas Guzzler Tax?
The Energy Tax Act of 1978 established a Gas Guzzler Tax on the sale of new model year vehicles whose fuel economy fails to meet certain statutory levels. The gas guzzler tax applies only to cars (not trucks) and is collected by the IRS.
The fuel economy figures used to determine the Gas Guzzler Tax are different from the fuel economy values provided on this web site and in the Fuel Economy Guide. The tax does not depend on your actual on-the-road mpg, which may be more or less than the EPA published value. The purpose of the Gas Guzzler Tax is to discourage the production and purchase of fuel inefficient vehicles. The amount of any applicable Gas Guzzler Tax paid by the manufacturer will be disclosed on the automobile's fuel economy label (the window sticker on new cars).
GAS GUZZLER TAX
Unadjusted MPG (combined)* Tax
at least 22.5 No tax
at least 21.5, but less than 22.5 $1000
at least 20.5, but less than 21.5 $1300
at least 19.5, but less than 20.5 $1700
at least 18.5, but less than 19.5 $2100
at least 17.5, but less than 18.5 $2600
at least 16.5, but less than 17.5 $3000
at least 15.5, but less than 16.5 $3700
at least 14.5, but less than 15.5 $4500
at least 13.5, but less than 14.5 $5400
at least 12.5, but less than 13.5 $6400
less than 12.5 $7700
* The combined fuel economy MPG value (55% city, 45% highway) is used to determine tax liability. The MPG value is also adjusted slightly to account for differences in test procedures made since the base year, but it is not adjusted for in-use short fall. The unadjusted combined MPG of a vehicle can be approximated from the city and highway values provided in the Fuel Economy Guide and on this website by the following equation:
(1/(.495/City MPG + .351/Highway MPG)) + .15
Since this is an approximate calculation, the actual gas guzzler tax may be off by one tax bracket."
melssat replied: "If you have a Hummer you pay it." Would you support a "gas guzzler" tax to help balance the budget ? I'd willingly pay it. I have a gift replied: "No."
whimsy replied: "Definitely"
M&T replied: "IS THAT YOU MR.O ??"
itsme6922 replied: "already pay a gas guzzler tax when you buy a vehicle that gets horrible milege...I.E a Hummer or Corvette....not sure what those levels are, but there is a tax...."
Spock (rhp) replied: "we already have one -- it is the arbitrary per gallon tax on gasoline.
if gasoline was taxed at the same percentages as any other product -- that would be fair.
and if motor fuels were taxed honestly on top of that in an amount calculated to pay for road repairs, that would also be fair [hint: according to the US DOT, this tax isn't fairly distributed -- cars pay too much and trucks pay too little.]"
Joe S replied: "No. I would support cuts in spending to balance the budget. Yes, I understand that will result in cuts to services. There are many things that government does that I think it should stop no matter how much it costs."
sgt_mjc replied: "Why would I support a tax to take money away form me or others? No I would not. Instead of taking more money, how about we be smarter with the money we already pay in taxes?"
opinionated replied: "No, only a complete udder moron would support that.
4 udder morons!"
SPC_2009 replied: "No, taxes already make gasoline expensive.
"
tgf1995 replied: "Absolutely not.
Why not just CUT the budget down to a sane amount? The point it's gotten to is ridiculous.
If you try to "balance the budget" through taxation now, then the government will only increase its budget... and then what will you tax next?
Government is a parasite."
Mcgyvr replied: "I'd support a "gas-guzzler" tax if the economy was roaring."
Bash Limpbutt's Oozing Cyst© replied: "Whoops! Already is one! Has been for over 3 decades."
Lemme guess replied: "Would you support an "over-eaters" tax?
Would you support an "Internet usage tax?"
Would you support a "Remote control tax?"
The people and businesses of America do not exist to fund the Federal government."
Moose replied: "Yes, for that reason and others. If you use more than your share of the earths resources, pay for them. I am continually amazed at the right. The criticized everyone, but themselves, for a sense of entitlement. Yet, when asked to compensate America for their 8 MPG road hog, they are all about freedom.
EDIT to Lemmie Guess: when Internet usage, remote controls and food are determined to be finite resources, get back to me. Until then, pay for the resources you use."
alergic3 replied: "So we would have a tax on buses, trucks, locomotives, ships and airliners..
No."
Con-gress replied: "Obama and pelosi will be the biggest payers"
AMO 45 replied: "No ,it just another tax that singles out a segment of the population. They already pay more in gasoline taxes (by using more)Why is every solution another tax?"
Locutus2of1 replied: "No.Have you seen what vehicles are for sale used? SUV's! So we have another democrat trying to punish the rich when it is only the poor who can buy only used that will pay."
wadesxfile@yahoo.com replied: "No,absolutely not,we are already over taxed on everything already. Why must we the hard working responsible people always be the ones to bare the burden of sacrifice and suffering. And the ones who cause the problems we face today get the relief and are rewarded for their indiscretions."
Witchy replied: "No. I don't believe in targeting certain citizens and punishing them with taxes. I don't own a gas guzzler but I don't want to target those who do (they are doing nothing illegal by owning a gas guzzler). I have the same views about the cigarette tax. I don't think it's right to target a minority group and punishing them with taxes for doing something that's legal.
I am also against targeting people who eat trans-fats, sugar, or drink caffeine. These are all legal behaviors and these people should not be punished. Our tax system was not set up to punish our citizens for politically incorrect legal behaviors. This would be another misuse of our tax system."
Reason Enforcer replied: "No, you can't constitutionally target a tax like that. Plus they wouldn't use it to plug any holes, they'd just find something new to spend it on." Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Gas Guzzler Tax?!? I had a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, and it's suppose to escape the gas guzzler tax, but then I went to today and saw that the 2009 Corvette with the LS3 are listed on the Tax list, what about my Z06?! They said "It's the first and only 500 hp car to escape Gas Guzzler Tax" Please Help!!!
I'm confused!
Forgot to mention, I was thinking about getting a 2009 Z06, so is the price increased or something by the gas guzzler tax? And please no mean things! Larry E replied: "If you can afford a vette like that why worry about the gas tax. With today's economy consider your self lucky."
omocron replied: "This tax, whatever the status of it, is another example of the Democrats trying to social engineer by regulation and tax. Instead of allowing oil companies and others to drill and open more supply, and letting the marketplace find the correct mix of coal, carbon, and other energy sources, THEY want to use taxes to tell you what you can buy, what you can drive, etc. If you can drive a 500 horsepower car, do it, if not, park it or sell it. First step in ending this madness is to REPLACE the congress. Not with Republicans, Democrats or Independents, but with truly Conservative legislators who will use tried and true methodology to fix this mess."
Buffman replied: "You only pay that tax when you buy the car. If you look at 06, you'll see the z06 isn't on there. Remember stupid EPA changed their guidelines, so Mpg is now rated lower than before."
Chip replied: "if you have to worry about the tax you might be looking at the wrong vehicle. I have a Tahoe and people ask about gas millage if I was worried about that Id take the bus" Gas prices & the Gas Guzzler Tax? Why not put a huge gas guzzler tax on those big SUV's and minivans that the soccer mom's chauffer themselves around in? They were able to penalize a sport sedan BMW M3, but a behemoth chevy tahoe, ford expedition gets away with no tax? This is ridiculous.
Broke ass retards, they already put a guzzler tax on the 80k M3, not that you'd know because such a fine automobile is way out of your league. I'm not inventing a new tax. justinhaddock@ymail.com replied: "wait. WHAT!"
Jason H replied: "They are already paying more to fuel up... That's enough..
Another democrat with an idea to raise taxes... You probably won't get support from your own party on this one....
I'm so sorry that you would spend all your money on a fancy car because it is a shallow way of telling everyone you have money..
Perhaps a retirement plan might be a better investment..."
& replied: "I've had enough of you commie libs. If you own a SUV, you're already paying more in gas. Stop trying to control everyone's life you commie pinko! This isn't Soviet russia where you are mandated by the state to drive a Yugo. Get out of this country, you have business being an American!" |
